Part 2: Fingers, Elements and Attitudes, Oh My!
What's with the Attitude?! — 4-Part Series
JSJ is all about the various relationships between different aspects of our being. For example, each finger has a relationship to one of the 5 elements of Earth, Water, Wood, Air and Fire. (See my previous blog posts about the 5 elements >)
Thumb—Earth
Index finger—Water
Middle finger--Wood
Ring finger—Air
Little Finger—Fire
Additionally, each element, when out of harmony, has a relationship with a certain attitude. In short, Earth element, in disharmony, relates to the attitude of Worry. Likewise, unbalanced Water, Wood, Air and Fire elements relate to the attitudes of Fear, Anger, Sadness and Pretense, respectively.
Earth—Worry
Water—Fear
Wood—Anger
Air—Sadness
Fire—Try to/Pretense
So this relationship explains the finger-attitude connection. Since our hands are electromagnetic, they are naturally attuned to energy flow. When we hold our fingers or place our hands on the body, we are gently directing the flow of energy. This is the why and the how that holding our fingers works!
The fingers are also related to organ function energies. That's why, holding your index finger not only harmonizes fear, but also helps a back ache. And holding holding your thumb not only harmonizes worry, but also helps digestion. Exploring all the relationships between the fingers, the elements, the attitudes and bodily function is beyond the scope of this blog post, but we do explore all of these relationships in our classes (so please join us! Visit our Services page for more information.
So, what is an attitude exactly?
We explore that in the next post, Part 3: Got Attitude? >
Each finger has a relationship with an element, organ function energy, and an emotion/attitude. There are other relationships as well, but for this post, I'm going to focus on the finger-attitude relationship.
