Now let's dive into the water element!

Water is cool, deep, flowing, rolling, reflective, purifying, nourishing, balancing, slow, and calm. Water relates to the ebb and flow of emotions.

If we are in FEAR, we are not in FLOW.

Water is a solvent and a mixer. The Mediator Flow in JSJ has the quality of Water element because it mediates and mixes/blends all the elements into a harmonious whole.

Water is the season of Winter; the season of rest and deep sleep, of going deep within.

In the physical body, Water element is represented by the bladder and kidneys, as well as the muscular and immune systems. Physical signs of Water element out of balance include adrenal fatigue, ear projects, muscle pain, discomfort with movement (a lot of moaning and groaning), urinary projects, elimination projects, dehydration, and/or fluid retention and edema.

Drinking plenty of water is important to keep our energy moving – our bodies are 55-75% water after all!

In astrology, the Water element is seen in the signs of Cancer ("I Feel"), Scorpio (“I Create”), and Pisces (“I Believe”). All of these signs have Water traits; including empathy as well as their ability to connect with others on a deeply emotional level. Bladder function energy is related to the sign of Libra (“I Balance”) and kidney function energy is related to Scorpio.

The second chakra, the area between the navel and the genitals, represents Water element. It is sometimes called the womb chakra, the water chakra, or the sacral (sacred) chakra. It expresses the energy of change, movement, pleasure, emotions, sexuality, nurturance, and intuition.

The Water Personality is the philosopher, the deep thinker, the artist. Water personalities yearn for meaning in life and strive to align their lives with their personal values. They love words (the flow of words) and are often poets, writers, and musicians. Dancers also have a lot of Water element – their movements flow with ease.

Under stress, someone with an excess of Water element might experience sadness, overwhelm, no motivation, insomnia, and lack of energy.

Because they can go deep within their minds, Waters can be prone to depression and isolation. They have a tendency to be very sensitive and emotional. They can also let their FEARS keep them from fully living their lives. Sometimes their many thoughts overwhelm them, so they end up doing nothing! Following through is a challenge. Just like water, they can become stagnant and stuck – out of flow.  Procrastination can be an issue.

Do you know anyone who is chronically late?

People with a lot of Water element often have a different relationship with time.

Because comfort is so important to them, some Waters may want or expect others to take care of them. They can sometimes be seen as selfish, narcissistic, or lazy.

Under stress, someone with an excess of Water element might experience sadness, overwhelm, no motivation, insomnia, and lack of energy. The excess Water has smothered the Fire! Now there's no spark left!

Water may ask questions such as, "Will I survive this?" or "What is my purpose?"

While an excess of Water element can smother your Fire, too much Fire can dry up your Water – then there's no flow and no playfulness. In just the right amount, though, Fire can energize Water! Water should befriend a Fire... someone to motivate you to get moving!

As you can see, the elements are always in flux and interacting with each other. Balance between the elements is key to balance in life!
